I recently rebuilt a custom overhang on the side of a house that had completely rotted out from years of West Coast moisture. The original structure had trapped water and allowed moss to grow, which eventually caused the wood to break down. I removed all the damaged material and rebuilt the overhang properly using cedar and durable plastic trim so it can handle the coastal climate.

Cedar was chosen because it naturally resists rot and moisture, while the plastic components prevent water from sitting in areas that usually collect moss or cause decay. The result is a clean, strong overhang that not only looks better but is built to last in the wet West Coast environment.

It’s the kind of repair that doesn’t just fix the problem—it prevents it from coming back.
